Product pictures now open full screen. Tap or click a picture in the gallery of a product page and it fills the screen on a black background, with the other pictures of the product along the bottom so you can move between them without going back.
You can look closely at a product. Pinch with two fingers on a phone or tablet, scroll or use the zoom buttons on a computer, or simply double tap the spot you want a better look at. Once it is enlarged, drag the picture to move around it.
On a phone the whole thing works by feel: swipe sideways for the next picture, swipe down to put it away. On a computer the arrow keys move between pictures, Escape closes, and + − and 0 zoom in, out and back to the start.
You decide what a product page shows. Open an item and you will find a new “Product page” section where you can switch off the highlights, the picture gallery, the description, the specifications, the availability and stock, the reference codes, your custom fields or the related products — per product, so a simple item can have a simple page.
Turning off “Reference codes” does more than hide them: the SKU, commodity code and barcode are then kept out of the page and out of the information published to Google and other shopping feeds as well.
A button on that section opens the product page in a new tab, so you can check the result straight after saving.
Updates
The gallery on a product page now shows an expand button on the picture, so it is obvious there is a bigger view to open.
A large photograph takes a moment to arrive, and the viewer now says so instead of showing an empty screen while it loads.
Every product page keeps everything switched on unless you say otherwise, so nothing changes for the products you already have. The bar that follows you down the page now only offers shortcuts to the sections that are actually there.
