How to install the URL Shortener App
Installation
- Go to Settings.
- Open Apps.
- Search for URL Shortener.
- Click Install.
- Click Activate.
Installing creates the App's own tables and its default settings. Installing again after an
update is safe: existing links, clicks and any setting an administrator has changed are left as they are.
Give your team access
The App adds its own permissions to the staff roles. Until a role is granted at least one of them,
nobody but an administrator sees the App in the menu.
- Go to Settings → Roles.
- Edit the role you want to grant access to.
- Under URL Shortener, tick the permissions you want:
- View short links — can open the App and see links.
- Create, edit, pause & delete short links.
- See everyone's links — without this, a user only sees links they created themselves.
- Access URL Shortener settings.
- Save the role.
Check the settings
Open URL Shortener → Settings and confirm:
- Generated code length — 7 is the default and is right for almost everyone.
- Short link address — leave it empty to use your own workspace address.
- Store visitor IP addresses — off by default, and usually the right choice.
- Count bot visits — off by default, so mail scanners do not make every
emailed link look opened.
Verify it works
- Create a short link pointing at any public page.
- Copy it and open it in a private browser window.
- You should land on the destination, and the link's detail page should show one click.
