Appointments alternatives

If you are looking at the NIZU Appointments App, you are almost certainly also looking at a standalone scheduling product. This page compares them honestly, because the right answer genuinely depends on where the rest of your business already lives.

The alternatives fall into three groups:

• Hosted scheduling SaaS — Calendly, Acuity Scheduling, SimplyBook.me, Setmore. Mature, polished, sold per user or per site.
• Open-source / self-hosted schedulers — Cal.com, Easy Appointments. You own the data and the server.
• Booking add-ons inside a bigger system — Amelia and similar WordPress plugins, and NIZU Appointments. The booking engine is a feature of a platform you already run.

The comparison

Where NIZU Appointments genuinely wins

• You are not billed per provider. Every scheduling SaaS on the list except Acuity charges by the seat. Adding your tenth provider to NIZU Appointments costs nothing, because a provider is a team member you already have.
• The client's data is already yours. Bookings and payment records live in your workspace's own database, one per company. There is no third-party system holding your client list and no data-processing agreement to negotiate for the diary.
• Payment credentials are entered once. Stripe comes from the workspace payment methods you already use for invoices, and Mollie from the Mollie App. No second dashboard, no second set of keys, and one currency setting.
• Permissions you have already set apply. Who may see the diary, edit bookings, change prices or mark money as received is decided in the same role editor as the rest of the workspace — not in a separate admin panel with its own idea of roles.
• The work that follows the meeting is in the same place. The quote, the project, the tasks, the invoice and the support tickets are records in the same system, not an integration to build and maintain.
• Availability is computed from live rules. Opening hours, per-provider weekly hours, service duration, existing bookings, holidays and the provider's external calendar are all evaluated at the moment a slot is requested, so there is no cached slot table to drift.
• Twelve languages out of the box, following each user's own language setting.

Where the alternatives are genuinely better

This is the part comparison pages usually leave out.

• Breadth of scheduling features. Acuity and SimplyBook.me have had a decade to build packages, memberships, gift certificates, intake forms, group classes, coupons and multi-location handling. Appointments does one-to-one service bookings well and does not try to cover all of that.
• Round-robin and team scheduling. Calendly's collective and round-robin event types, pooled availability and meeting-routing forms are ahead of anything here.
• Custom booking form fields. Amelia, Acuity and SimplyBook.me let you build arbitrary intake forms. Appointments captures a fixed set of client details today; custom fields are on the roadmap.
• SMS reminders. Most of the hosted products include SMS. Appointments sends email and, optionally, Telegram.
• Automatic video-meeting links. Zoom and Google Meet links are generated automatically by Calendly, Cal.com and Acuity. Not yet here.
• Client self-service rescheduling. The tracking link shows a client their booking; it does not yet let them move or cancel it themselves.
• HIPAA-compliant plans. If you need one, SimplyBook.me and Acuity offer them on premium tiers. That is a specific compliance commitment, not a feature to approximate.
• Deposits and refunds. Appointments takes the full price or nothing; part payments and in-app refunds are roadmap items.
• Nothing to run. A hosted scheduler needs no cron job, no OAuth app registration and no server. If you have no NIZU workspace, that is a real advantage.

Which should you choose?

If you already run your business on NIZU, Appointments is the obvious choice. It is included, it costs nothing per provider, it honours the permissions you have already set, it takes payment through the gateway you already use, and the booking sits in the same database as the invoice that follows it. Only step outside it if you specifically need one of the gaps listed above.

If your diary is the business — a clinic, a salon, a studio selling packages, memberships and classes, with intake forms and SMS reminders — Acuity Scheduling or SimplyBook.me will serve you better than any booking add-on, and it is worth paying for.

If you mostly need a link that lets people grab a meeting and your team scheduling is complex, Calendly is still the best at that one job.

If you want to self-host a dedicated scheduler and do not need it joined to the rest of your operations, Cal.com is the strongest open-source option.

If your business runs on WordPress, Amelia is the equivalent choice there — a booking engine inside the platform you already have, for the same reasons Appointments makes sense inside NIZU.
